Contemporary Remodel – Phase 2

In my last post I told you about a 2 phase remodel I worked on, showing before & after pictures of the fireplace, kitchen and flooring. I got some great feed back and comments and am excited to show you what we did in phase 2 for this small, contemporary, ocean-front condo. The focus of phase 2 was to design the sleeping quarters and baths to visually blend with the work we had already done. The challenge was to make a tiny master bathroom and bedroom feel bigger without adding square footage.

BEFORE & AFTER PHASE 2

Guest Bath

The original guest bath was the run-of-the-mill builder special cabinets and tile. Staying with our sleek, clean, white contemporary look we used textured tile from Ann Sacks to add visual interest to this 5′ x 8′ bathroom. In keeping with a contemporary look, I designed a floating vanity painted in a metallic silver which helps make the bathroom feel a bit bigger.

The Master Bed and Bath Rooms

The space plan for the master included knocking out the closet walls and adjoining bath wall to create a larger, more contemporary master suite. Knocking down these walls made the room feel more open and modern.  I designed a closet that provided the same amount of hanging space as the original closet while transitioning to the master vanity seamlessly. The bathroom was turned into a smaller shower and toilet room. The use of pale grey cabinets and Carrara marble in a timeless herringbone pattern keeps the space light and bright. We continued the touch of metallic we have in every room, in the master sheer draperies.

In phase 1 of this remodel we updated the kitchen, fireplace and floor of the entry, kitchen living, and dining rooms. This 1100sf condo was recently sold for 80% more than my client’s purchase price; an upturn in the housing market and our substantial interior design improvements made this possible.

Design for the way YOU live,
